Toponymics
Queenstown was named after Queen Elizabeth II, monarch of the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth. Queen Elizabeth II was Singapore's Head of State until Singapore's independence.
The development of Queenstown started in 1953. Hence the new satellite town was named to commemorate Her Majesty’s coronation on 2 June 1953.
Most of Queenstown's street names, particularly those in the older Princess Estate and Duchess Estate, have a connection with the British Royal Family.
